about

To mark the first anniversary of Colin’s death here is ‘Black is the Colour of Hope’, a beautiful song that Colin had started work on the melody with Chris McDonald and Rod da Rosa towards the end of 2015. Chris and Rod finished the song after Colin died, so we invited them to perform it at the memorial service last year.

Chris and Rod have generously agreed to let us make the live recording available as a download.

All proceeds will go to Brú Columbanus, the charity that Colin's family chose to support (give.everydayhero.com/…/in-memory-of-colin-vearncom…) as they provide incredible support to families of those who are in crisis in Cork's hospitals.

We are all striving to transform our grief over Colin's passing into love and gratitude for his life and music. In our process of letting go of the darkness and turning towards beauty and light, his songs are our daily companions and strength.

lyrics

Black is the Colour of Hope (lyrics)

We see your truth standing by the water side
We hear your wisdom when the west wind cries
Tonight a thousand voices will be by your side
Cos you made black the colour of hope

So you keep playing on
You keep playing on
You keep playing on
For us
And we’ll keep playing on for you

I could’ve been a pauper or a villain or a prince
You’d still invite me to your table to sit as a king
Tonight a thousand voices will rise up to sing
That you made black the colour of hope

So you keep playing on
You keep playing on
You keep playing on
For us
And we’ll keep playing on for you

Fate it serves no justice and it speaks no truth
I just felt so cheated that you were taken too soon
Tonight a thousand voices will be crying out for you
Cos you made black the colour of hope

With our heads in our hands, tears keep coming
As the sky's painted black rain keeps falling
But you'd tell us to stop, to keep going
Then you’d tell us a joke, we’d start laughing

So we’ll keep playing on
We’ll keep playing on
We’ll keep playing on
For you
And you keep playing on for us
